Ave Romans, and greetings to the members of the wider Club Penguin army community. Tis’ I, the Romans’ resident thirty year old founder with the username I typed out when I suffered a stroke at the ripe age of ten, Dj.
I’m writing this post with the intention of bringing attention to something that annoyed me during my brief comeback last year. In a community that takes revival permissions way more seriously than I ever did, I find it curious that nobody else has pointed out a classic army was prominently revived without approval by CPA veterans who now carry themselves around as the creators of said army, while paying no homage to their namesake’s history; In fact, their actions have contributed to further obfuscating said history, as any generation prior to theirs isn’t acknowledged whatsoever by them, or the CPA wiki, news site or organization.
The army I am referring to, as you may have figured out by the post title, is the Club Penguin Spartans. Read more after the break:

To make it perfectly clear, I don’t think any of the founders or members of the post-2021 iteration of the Spartans intentionally brought back a classic army without acknowledging earlier generations (though I would argue negligence on the part of the “creators” and those who documented later Spartan history); Nor am I looking to go all “hurr durr you didn’t get revival perms” on them. I’ll leave that to the Nacho veterans who should find something better to do with their time. The history of the Spartans prior to 2021 is incredibly obscure. Much of it has been lost to time, with their WordPress blogs being defaced, deleted or privated by the site owners. The only reason I’m able to share their story is because early Spartan and Roman history are heavily intertwined. That, and I was there to experience it myself as a child.
Note: My memory of events that happened near twenty years ago is flawed. While I’m doing my best to maintain accuracy, I may mix up some details.
The Original Eight Generations
Let’s go back a couple decades, to a time when Web 2.0 was in its golden era and the CPA community was in its infancy. The year is 2007. Zach Snyder’s movie “300” came out the year prior, and “This Is Sparta” remixes were hitting the internet like Katrina making landfall in New Orleans. I’m not sure which of these inspired the creation of the true original Spartans, but at some point Chubby83 and Theorginalme- the actual Spartan creators- founded the first generation of the army.
This is where we have our first run-in with a commonplace issue in regards to Spartan history: The original website was deleted, by “someone” per an old romanarmyandallies post via the Wayback Machine (see below). I can’t show off any events pictures to you, or tell you how many people they had. I can tell you they were considered major by multiple unrelated sources (a history synopsis here, an unofficial vibe based top ten focused on late 2007/early 2008 largely informed by Iceyfeet1234 there) and their uniform at the time was nearly 1:1 with our BDU Type IV. I can tell you that at some point in early 2008, the first Spartan generation merged with the Romans, forming the “Roman-Spartans”, which is how prominent Romans such as Hero12985 and Smiley40 ended up in our army. I can tell you that Chubby83, Smiley40 and I led this combined army together. At some point, Chubby83 left armies and likely Club Penguin as a whole, and at that point our army dropped the Spartan part of our name, returning to just being the Romans. That’s as far as my memory and the very little information I have available via my research takes me.
Likewise, the second generation, founded by Hero12985, has next to no information on it. The website, http://cpsspartans.wordpress.com/, was deleted, and unfortunately the Wayback Machine doesn’t have any archives of it. All I know is Hero dropped his Spartan generation in favor of running his baby- the Club Penguin Warriors- sometime later in 2008, early 2009 at the latest. Its level of success is unknown. I have no memory of its existence.
The next generation has even less information on it. Nobody even knows who ran it. The next three generations, however, were mine.
In truth, I don’t remember much from my time running the Spartans. The website? Defaced, naturally. The Wayback Machine offers a lot more information than other generations, but unfortunately there’s only screenshots of the websites first page from different periods of times. What a waste.
Like all the other post-Chub generation leaders, I was motivated to restore the army to the forgotten glory of the first generation. My generation kicked off sometime around April 2009, and I led it on the side while running Romans. Prominent members included Alfrondo1465, an early DCP leader, and Capncook, former ACP leader. From the limited information available to me, the fourth Spartan gen was a solid S/M army that hovered around a 10~ max average. We went to war with an army called “CPSS”, likely an early Club Penguin Secret Service army if I had to guess (there’re no pictures of this conflict). Shortly after the conclusion of this war, in September 2009, I decided I had done my job reviving the army and returned to running Romans full time, leaving the army in the hands of Capncook and Alfrondo.
The army then lost all momentum. Capncook retired a couple weeks later and Alfrondo appears to have went AWOL.
The following month, I returned after retiring from Romans (I’m pretty sure I left after all the OG Romans slowly aged out one-by-one and the website was defaced for the millionth time), leading alongside Brad448 and Sergie717. The army faltered and died shortly afterwards. I believe I decided to stick with focusing on the RPF instead.
Thus bringing an end to the fourth and fifth generations, respectively. Realistically, they should be counted as the same generation, but later Spartan gens historically considered them separate. I choose to respect that.
Later in February 2010, I tried to give Spartans another go, bringing it back with Blazeboy136/Gph136 and somebody named Spiff. I didn’t stick with it, though; That was around the time I decided I was too old for CPA and moved on with my life, at the ripe age of 14 (some of you CPA adults could use that level of self-reflection, go touch grass). The army died after hosting a single event with no pictures.
Cpt Awesome3 attempted to get a seventh generation going, but going off the lack of posts on the website and the fact he’s the only person listed on the website, it failed to launch. Spi101 similarly tried to kickstart another generation after Cpt Awesome’s gen on my old site, but it’s unknown how far it advanced since somebody from his generation defaced the website in its entirety.
Assholes.

Other Spartan Armies
Despite Chubby83’s Spartans coming to a conclusion with Cpt Awesome3 and Spi101’s generations, other Spartan armies have sprung up throughout CPA history.
- Ganger90 evidently ran a Spartan army at some point. However, it looks like he rebranded his army to the Night Rebels some time after he already paid for the WordPress domain, http://spartanscp.com/. The website has since either been privated or deleted; The Wayback Machine only displays posts and information related to the Night Rebels. It’s possible this may have been a continuation from earlier generations, but I have no way of telling. I haven’t talked to the guy in nearly a decade so I can’t verify the accuracy of this information.
- Somebody named Devhin founded a Spartans of Club Penguin Online to some success, maxing about six. They then rebranded to Shadow Troops. You can find their website here.
- Some random named Saint 77 formed an army called Spartan Force in 2008. Their website has only a single introduction post and their uniform consisted of a PSA/dress clothes, of all choices.
- Somebody named Speedee9 additionally made an army named Spartans of Club Penguin in 2011. They averaged under ten, and shut down after Speedee9 said he decided he wanted to spend more time on Club Penguin. Don’t see why he couldn’t spend more time on Club Penguin running his army. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You can check out his website here.

Closing Thoughts
I didn’t write this with any intention of denigrating the accomplishments of the two latest Spartan generations. I’ve spoken with many former Spartans from that era who greatly enjoyed their time in the army. They certainly accomplished more than I did during my tenure as Spartan leader, and that’s something that should be respected.
Still, the fact the CPA wikia solely focuses on this version of the Spartans, without any focus on the original Spartans, is a tragedy. The two true creators of the Spartans of Club Penguin are Chubby83 and Theorginalme, and anybody who says otherwise is factually wrong.
Anyways, if you want revival permission to the Spartans from someone who won’t hold you to weird terms and conditions, who also actually has a right to hand out the perms to the army name, hit me up. We’d love to have our brother army back. I still have access to our old site if anyone wants to use it.
Ad Majorem Gloriam,
Djgtjvgyhxgy, Roman Consul, Spartan Leader, Ret.
