On February 7th, 2026, Romans exited the Army World Cup [CPAL] tournament victorious after 17 room wins and a whopping 20 max in our final battle. We fought valiantly through every battle, prepared every day, seized every night until our perseverance paid off and we came back with our first trophy in 11 years.
Winning this tournament was a shared aim for everyone in Romans. We went the extra mile with motivation to present ourselves as the powerful force in the s/m community that we know we are. One reason this was incredibly meaningful for us was due to the fact we had only won one other tournament in our history. This win was the SMAC Christmas Clash back in 2015 (11 years ago). But this year, we brought our second trophy home, and hopefully many more in the future.
AWC was truly a turning point for Romans. Not only does another trophy stand among our honours, we ended every battle without a single defeat and with just one tie in our final battle. This is no easy feat for any army.
We began by facing Shreks, followed by Scarlet Republic, Teutons, Shadow Legionnaires– all of which resulted in a flawless Romans sweep. Eventually, we then fiercely fought Void Troops which secured our victory through a more challenging showdown. Throughout it all, judges described our dominance in speed, clean formations, size and strategy. The commentary provided displayed that our unity and strength became evident to all on the battlefield.
The Army World Cup tournament was not just a few battles to us. It brought us together as an army, as a community. Every member of Romans had a great amount of enthusiasm and looked forward to working as one connected team in the hopes of succeeding, having something to rejoice about. At the end of it, we did exactly that. We all learned things as we progressed, we all grew stronger and we all showed each other what we can do with the power of teamwork. It goes without saying that this is something to be proud of.
Interview – Leadership
After the news of our success was announced, I reached out to all three leaders, Znation, Csani and Nardo for an interview. These three individuals made immense efforts to get where they did as an incredible trio, planning and executing from start to finish.
Did you expect to win the AWC tournament?
Znation: tbh, i did not expect romans to win the tournament
Csani: I didn’t think we would have a chance at first, but as the first few battles went down, I became pretty confident that we could win the tournament. Overall, I had high hopes of bringing this trophy home.
Nardo: We believed we could win, but winning is never guaranteed. The competition was stacked and every round demanded full focus. Confidence came from preparation and trust in our troops, not from assuming the outcome.
how did it feel knowing you did win?
Znation: i feel amazing and like a capable leader who led his army to victory
Csani: It felt amazing to see us win this tournament. I am proud of everyone, and I couldn’t be more glad to be a part of this army.
Nardo: Honestly, it was surreal. Winning our first tournament since 2015 made it feel like a full-circle moment for Romans. It wasn’t just about this run, it was about everything that came before it and finally seeing that work pay off.
What was the biggest challenge you faced?
Znation: my biggest challange was my own anxiety cuz i got very anxious before every battle
Csani: Our biggest challenge was definitely our last battle against Void Troops, but in the end, we came out on top. Also making sure the events were scheduled at the correct time LOL
Nardo: Execution under pressure. Knowing the right call is one thing; executing it cleanly when the room is chaotic and the stakes are high is another. That’s where tournaments are won or lost.
Would you do anything differently?
Znation: if i had 100 lives id chose to do the same thing all over again
Csani: I would’ve prepared more before each battle, but overall, I don’t think I would do anything differently.
Nardo: There’s always room to improve, maybe tighter transitions or clearer calls in a few moments, but overall, the way the troops showed up and adapted makes it hard to regret anything. The experience itself sharpened us.
Do you have anything you’d like to say to your troops?
Znation: SIZE THE NIGHT
Csani: I am astonished by my troops’ performance, I am absolutely proud of everyone, good job yall. KEEP IT UP!
Nardo: I couldn’t be prouder of you. You showed discipline, resilience, and heart every step of the way. This win belongs to every Roman who logged on, listened up, and fought for the legion. You earned this. Keep seizing the night!

interview – consul
I also took the time to reach out to our current consul, Smurf for some insight. Despite not being a current leader, Smurf made many contributions in guiding the army and overseeing its progress every step of the way.
Did you expect Romans to win the AWC tournament?
Smurf: I was open to any possibility. A single tournament doesn’t define us, but I knew Romans was steadily improving. I wasn’t sure we could win a tournament with a flawless win streak yet. I always knew we had what it takes to do great, so I’m not surprised we pulled it off.
It’s been a long time since Romans brought back a trophy. How did it feel that we did?
Smurf: It felt extremely satisfying to witness our efforts these past few months pay off. I have a lot of sentimental attachment to this community of ours since it was a staple of my childhood.
Twitchy and I voluntarily chose to advise Znation and later Csani’s generation for fun, and seeing how much Romans and its leadership have grown in such a short time is truly special. It further motivates me to step in and make Romans a great community, alongside these amazing people.
Was there one moment that specifically stood out to you?
Smurf: One moment that really stood out was realizing how much everything about this army has improved. Our sizes basically doubled. The speed of our tactics and form changes blew me away (very fast compared to just months ago). Romans is starting to feel like a Major army. It was also satisfying to see our strategy and teamwork outperform other armies who had underestimated us.
Romans has made a lot of progress which was shown in this tournament. What are your thoughts?
Smurf: Romans has enormous potential for growth from here. Let’s lock in and enjoy the ride. Let the spark we’ve built burn brightly into the night. Together, we can make history. Let’s seize the night, Romans. As always.
In conclusion, this triumph was monumental for Romans. Something all troops, staff, HCOM, leaders and veterans can agree upon. After attaining a historic second title and something to show for everything we put together as a team, everyone is in high spirits as we celebrate with a new colourful role, an endless chant, a HCOM promotion, a week of fun events and much more (I guess you’ll have to be there yourself to find out the rest!).
Finally, thank you to Ugly for hosting AWC, the CPAJ judges for ensuring a smooth tournament, our opponents for bringing us thrilling fights, our supporters for cheering Romans all the way, our staff for putting in so much work towards this and of course our troops for making all of it possible!
Seize the night!
Judy
